OFFICE PARTY?

“Tis the season for office parties. And with them comes the problem of what to wear. There’s a fairly narrow strike zone between looking like a bore and looking like a…tart.
Luckily, there’s an easy way to create a balance between appropriate and festive – for me, it starts with pants and ends with sparkle – and can be done with a mix of the above items (some of which are probably already in your closet). Something cozy, a sexy shoe, a luxe texture and a hint of shimmer…you’re done. And hey, once the whole “what to wear” thing is solved, you can actually enjoy the party! (Just not too much…)

P.S. Everything you see is available now and nothing’s over $200! (Click the pix to find out where…)

Claudia’s favorite oil, even though she can’t pronounce it…

A couple of years ago we were in Paris and I got this cool multi-purpose oil at a corner drug store. Although I didn’t consider myself an “oil” type of girl, I fell in love with the smell and decided it would be a good souvenir. Once home, it quickly became one of my favorite things to use – on the ends of my hair or to tame fly-aways, on my elbows or any dry patches – it always worked beautifully and a little went a long way. Recently, I realized that even with prudent use, my bottle was almost empty and sadly, no Paris trip in sight. Mon dieu! Surprisingly, good old Amazon carries it, so now even if I can’t get to Paris, I can still feel ooh la la…

OBSESSIONS, PART 4…

MB BBs

A couple of years ago I started to get a little tired of all the “exciting” shoes. I know it sounds crazy, but they just kept getting higher and higher, with more spikes and feathers and beads and bows and it was just like, enough already! Anyway, all of a sudden the shoe that felt the most “right” was the classic Manolo Blahnik BB. It’s perfectly proportioned point, low rise sides and modern looking heel, seemed fresh and new again. I became obsessed and now they are all I want to wear.

To aid in my obsession, Nieman Marcus has introduced the “Made to Order Blahnik BB Boutique”.You can choose the heel height, (my personal favorite is the 4.5 inches) and the colors (see above), and have your ideal pair in a few weeks. And although I won’t be indulging in this obsession quite as freely as I do with my denim shirts (sigh…), it’s nice to know I have options when I need them.*

*Hey, it’s all about positive thinking, people.

OBSESSIONS, PART 5…

Chan Luu scarf (Net A Porter)

Chan Luu scarf from Net-A-Porter.com

I love scarves. They add instant oomph to even the dullest look and they give an extra layer of warmth when you need it (and since my office is always numbingly cold, I wear them year round). I admit, I have way too many, but I’m still always on the look out for new ones. They don’t have to be fancy, but they do have to be soft or have an interesting pattern, or a cool texture. And they need to be on the large side – I like a scarf that has a good amount of fabric so I can work with it and have options.

Above and below are a couple that I’d like to get this season. Both meet all my requirements and will make everything I wear just a little bit more interesting and a lot more cozy.

FALL NAILS…OXBLOOD

On Sunday morning I enjoyed a simple pleasure that I rarely get a chance to do. I laid in bed with a stack of fashion magazines and perused the pages while my husband took the kids out…somewhere.  Ahhh what a luxury.  As I drank up all the images, trends and quiet, the one thing I kept seeing was the oxblood nail color. I have always loved a classic red nail look, but I really like the deeper more intense color of the oxblood polishes. It’s getting me a little excited for fall. It’s still really hot out though so it’s hard to embrace all of the fall fashion trends. I still want a playful summer color on my nails, but come November I’m all over this!
